Ashworth & Hale
Joiner hand-planing an oak panel in the Ashworth & Hale workshop

About

A workshop, not a showroom.

Ashworth & Hale was founded on a simple idea: the person who measures your home should care how the drawer closes.

Our story

Two joiners, one bench, a long view.

Thomas Ashworth trained as a cabinetmaker in the North West before spending a decade fitting kitchens for London's leading studios. Daniel Hale came from architectural joinery, working on listed houses where nothing is square and everything has to be scribed by hand.

In 2012 they took a small unit outside Knutsford with one bench and a second-hand panel saw. Today the workshop employs fourteen people — designers, cabinetmakers, painters and fitters — and still makes every piece under one roof.

We take on a limited number of projects each year so that each one receives the same attention as the first.

Craftsmanship

Built to last, not to a deadline.

  • Joints that hold. Dovetailed drawer boxes, mortise-and-tenon frames and doors that are hung, not clipped.
  • Finished by hand. Painted work is sprayed with a primer in the workshop and brushed by hand on site after installation.
  • Measured to the millimetre. Every room is laser-surveyed and templated before a single board is cut.
